Volvo C70
The manual transmission is 5-speed with synchromesh on all speeds and reverse. Final drive ratio: 4.0. The gear lever movements are transmitted to the manual transmission by cables, eliminating the transfer of vibrations from driveline to lever.
The ABS braking system is standard on Volvo C70s. The brake pedal pulsations when the ABS system is activated are minimal. As a result, brake feedback is improved. Stability during heavy braking on uneven surfaces is world class - as is the feeling of control. The difference compared with many other cars is particularly noticeable if the road surface differs on the right and left-hand sides. This ABS system is combined with EBD, Electronic Brake Distribution, a function that regulates the braking force to the rear wheels depending on the load and the degree of braking. EBD gives the rear wheels optimal braking force in every situation, without any risk of the wheels locking. When the driver brakes hard, the braking force to the rear wheels is reduced as they have a tendency to "lift." In normal braking conditions, however, when the load is on all four wheels, EBD distributes more braking force to the rear wheels. If the car is heavily laden, there is more of a load on the rear wheels and they can therefore be used even more to brake or slow the car. This means that the rear brakes are fully utilized and the braking capability of the car is improved, stability increases, and wear on the brake pads is more uniform.
